The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.) is a ministry that assists adults and children over the age of 10 in obtaining full membership and participation in the Catholic Church. Candidates are usually non-Catholics or Catholics who were baptized, but never received the other sacraments of initiation (confirmation and first communion). R.C.I.A. classes begin in the fall and continue weekly until Holy Saturday, when catechumens receive the sacraments and are brought into full membership in the Catholic Church. WHAT IS RCIA?

The initials R.C.I.A. stands for the “Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.” (RCIA)  The RCIA, a program of the Catholic Church, is oriented towards those who are searching and inquiring about the Catholic way of life. While this program is oriented for adults, it accepts teenagers who are mature enough to participate in the RCIA.

WHAT IS RCIC?

This is a program for children of age seven and up. This program is called the “Rite of Christian Initiation of Children,” or RCIC.

The Rite of Christian Initiation is for you if:

• You have never been baptized and think you might want to be baptized as a Catholic.

• You have been baptized in some other Christian Church and think that you might want to join the Catholic Church.

What is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the order for initiation into the Catholic Church.

For the Unbaptized, the RCIA gradually uncovers the story of God’s salvation for all; the mystery of Jesus’s life, death and resurrection; and the workings of the Holy Spirit as revealed in the beliefs, sacramental life and spiritual practices of the Catholic Church. Within the setting of a parish community and in accordance with the Church’s liturgical year, ”

For Baptized Christians who seek full communion with the Catholic Church, the RCIA includes rites and pastoral practice.

For Baptized Catholics who have received no other faith formation and have not received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, the RCIA mentions pastoral practices to become a fully initiated Catholic.

St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish offers a no-strings attached opportunity for people to ask questions and learn about our Catholic Faith. This “Inquiry” is a conversational forum that seeks to welcome people and answer questions they may have.
